D&D Travel's Waterfalls & Wineries -  Ithaca/Finger Lakes, Upstate New York...

Ithaca, NY sits at the southern end of Cayuga Lake, one of 11 finger lakes in upstate New York. Known for its wineries, of which there are over 100, the area also boasts dozens of waterfalls that are publically accessible. Below are just a few in the Ithaca area, along with a couple of wineries that we consider to be especially scenic...Please enjoy!  - Donna and Dennis

Above and below: Hector Falls, directly along NY 414 in Hector, flows down into Seneca Lake on its eastern shore. At times just a trickle, this summer's rains have made it a lovely sight!

...a visitor to the falls enjoys the "downpour!" The cascade is over 100 feet high, fed by Fall (s) Creek.

Next 3 images: Ludlowville Falls, in Tompkins County, can be amazing when at full flow over the entire ledge, but nonetheless is gorgeous as is, revealing the cave below. The falls are about 36 feet high, fed by Salmon Creek...

Above and next 3 images below: The most impressive waterfall we visited this time around was, hands down, Ithaca Falls, also fed by Fall Creek. About 100 feet tall, it is easily accessed by a short trail. The falls are along the western edge of Cornell University...

Very popular along the waterfall trail is Taughannock Falls, in the state park of the same name. The area is often crowded and you can see why! The drop is about 215 feet and a trail accesses the base of the waterfall as well. The park is on NY 89, about 10 miles north of Ithaca...It is fed by Taughannock Creek

On the campus of Cornell University, this deck overlooks Upper Triphammer Falls (next two images) at the junction of University and East Avenues, Ithaca. Again, it is fed by Fall Creek.

Lower Triphammer Falls...

Boundary Breaks Vineyard lies along the eastern shores of Seneca Lake in Lodi, NY. The view from the tasting room is one of the most beautiful we have seen in the region, as you can see from this image and the next two below! The vineyards are especially lush this year...

At Boundary Breaks, a Labor Day rainstorm makes its way across Seneca Lake from the West...

Donna (L), Pauline and Bob (our traveling partners) enjoy a tasting at Boundary Breaks Vineyard...

The grounds and view from Buttonwood Grove Winery are quite lovely as well! The vineyard is located in Romulus, along NY Route 89 and has some lovely gardens...

Looking east from the deck of Buttonwood Grove Winery...In the background is Cayuga Lake.

A final image in the "you never know what you'll find along the back roads" genre...This "retired" truck was found along NY 38 by Owasco Lake, near Wyckoff, NY!! Thanks very much for visiting! - D&D
