Both east
and west of Tucson, Arizona, in the Sonoran Desert, lie
        the two sections of Saguaro
National Park - an oasis of beauty in what first
appears to be a fairly barren landscape. Protected since
1933, the giant Saguaro cactus thrives in this harsh
environment. These plants, with a life span of 175 to 200
years, start life from a black seed the size of a
pinhead. A visit to the park and it's visitor centers
will reveal that the desert is actually teeming with
life. Our visit during the latter part of April produced
these photos, taken from early morning to sunset in both
sections of the park.. It's a fascinating place to be,
though in summer, temperatures can exceed 100 degrees.
Spring is best to observe the plants in full bloom.
