Above and below - The Old Red Mill in Jericho, Vermont. The Mill is a National Historic Site at the edge of Browns River and is home to the Jericho Historical Society. It also houses the "Snowflake" Bentley Exhibit. The discovery that no two snowflakes are alike was made by Wilson A. Bentley in Jericho - the first person to capture a single snowflake on glass plate film in 1885 at age 19! He gained world attention by combining a microscope and camera to photograph over 5000 flakes, never finding two the same... His book Snow Crystals was published just before his death in 1931 and is still in print - a remarkable man indeed... |
